This is da' crew with Cammi on the right, she was the backcountry ranger who worked with us most of the summer. If you look at all of these photos you will notice I have gone through more pairs of sunglasses this year than I can count, I just always lose them. WTF?

hey, this is me with my co-leader Heidi at a place called "Cowboy Heaven". We spent nine days backpacking and repairing trails and enjoyin' the scenery. One of our crew members hurt her knee and had to be evacuated on horseback. That's Montana for ya'. It's amazing how perspectives on life change after spending nine days away from any civilization.

Sighting the fall line of a doug fir tree that is about to crash to the Earth. I had my reservations about cutting down such massive and old trees at first, but there are so many of these trees in Montana, it really is something to see. The forest needs to be thinned and the trail needs to be cleared for pack animals.

I was proud to be a part of the "1st Annual Run to Save Pluto" As some of you nerds may know, Pluto recently lost its status as our solar systems ninth planet. It is now a dwarf planet, a travesty. That is why we took to the streets on this Sunday in Bozeman to raise awareness (and be ridiculous because that's what people are in this whitebread mountain yuppie town!)

This is a portrait of courage and sacrifice, a story that will live on in infamy. It was a blustery day in Late March. Twelve of us were dropped in the Teton mountains to contain the raging fire, but only three came back...
actually, we were just burning some brush outside of town and decided to take a silly picture with my friend Jon who is walking out of the smoke. we are doing some work in the Tetons later this year, but I doubt we will be fighting fires!

This is a photo of me with my co-leader, Heidi. Heidi is from up-state New York. We dressed up as the crocodile hunter and his wife for a costume thing at our leadership training and we won first prize! We wrestled a stuffed cow since there aren't any crocodiles in Montana, but it was still a hoot and a holler.
Soon Heidi and I will get to select the members we want on our crew and the real adventures will begin

This bloody photo is from our Wilderness First Aid training in Western Montana. To my left are Lauren and Tucker. We were all screwed, literally! Actually, the screws and the blood were ofcourse fake and we pretended to be hurt to train our care takers in case of a real-life emergency.Later in the week we participated in a staged mass-casualty airplane crash, it was so dramatic and realistic sometimes I forgot it wasn't real! Good times!

Crewleader photo
This is a Photo of my fellow crew leaders and I when we hiked a mountain near Ennis, MT. From left, starting in the back row are: Kate K. from Penn., Dan who has lived all over, Josh from Ohio, Tucker from San Fran., Katie D. from Colorado, Lauren from Ohio, Heidi F. from Michigan, John from Penn., and that's me rolling around in the snow. Heidi D. from Montana is not pictured. Kate K., Josh, and Lauren are also my most excellent roomates!

Hey Ya'll, this is the first posting of my blog spot in Montana. I have begun my new job as a Montana Conservation Corps Crew Leader in the town of Bozeman. Soon I will have pictures and maps and other cool graphics as soon as I get the time. So check back for that.
Bozeman is in South Central Montana very close to Yellowstone park. There are huge piles of snow everywhere in town and getting used to walking, driving, and riding my bike on icy roads and sidewalks has been interesting and fun.
My crew and I are doing a one-week Advanced Wilderness First Aid Course next week, and we recently visited Helena, Montana's capitol.
